New Zealand Tennis Girls’ Success
ANOTHER DAVIS CUP HOPE FOR AUSTRALIA Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. “They were the best lot we have sent over and the results far exceeded expectations," said Mr. George Gore, manager of the New Zealand girls’ team sent to Australia by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to compete in the New South Wales “age championships.” With the exception of Miss Kathleen Armstrong, of Christchurch, who is holidaying with her parents, all the players returned by the Awatea.
Mr.. Gore said each one had distinguished herself and that they were the best ever sent over was the opinion of Australian critics.
Mr. Gore said that W. Sidwell, the Australian boy who, with Miss Pam Cooke, won the combined doubles, was the outstanding player of the tournament, cleaning up everything before him. He is regarded as the coming hope of Australia in the Davis Cup matches.
