Church Services
Rev, C. Irving Benson, of Melbourne, who spoke at the recent conference of the Methodist Church In Wellington and who is touring New Zealand in connection with the Wesley bi-ccnten-ary commemoration, will conduct special services in the Methodist churches of this city to-morrow. Mr. Benson is the minister of the Melbourne Central Mission, where he preaches Kunday by Sunday to the largest congregation in that city. His sermons have become a feature of Australian broadcasting. His reputation is also well established in tho Old Land. The Guardian, paving tt tribute to his preaching genius, said: “Tho Rev. C. Irving ranks high among the most eloquent and cultured preachers of the southern hemisphere. He combines in an unusual way the spiritual note with literary charm." He has a ideasing voice, dramatic ability and a vitaL message. Mr. Benson lias a reputation not only as a preacher but also as a social worker and his contacts with all kinds and conditions of men and women have given him a keen and sympathetic understanding of human problems. lie is also known as an author, his book, “The Eight Points of the Oxford Group," being regarded as pne of the best expositions of the Group position. Mr. Benson, who arlives by air from Nelson to day, will conduct the morning service in Cuba Street Methodist Church, and the evening service in St. Paul’s, Broadway; avenue, lie will also address a youth rally in St. Paul’s in the afternoon.
