The west end of Seabury avenue, front - ing the river fiat,, was a hive of industry last week-end. women assisting their men-folk in the work of renovating and excavating. Mr Hunt (Feilding) has removed the gabled roof of his house and was busily engaged in substituting a fiat one, so that ere long a modern-looking house of Spanish design should be the result. Nearby, Mr D. Reid and his sons (Palmerston North) were hard at work on their cottage, which has assumed mushroom growth and which also promises to lake on a Spanish air. Across the street is Air F. Fawcett’s “Chalet.” (The name is of Swiss origin, meaning “the house on the hill.”) It certainly lives up to its name, as it is elevated high above its neighbours and commands a view of the coast-line fax* to the north. From the perch on the hill one almost expects to hear ehe sounds of yodelling, but Mr F awcett has also developed a Spanish complex. and was busily engaged in clearing, levelling and pegging-out, in readiness for additions designed to transform the “Chalet” into a fiat-roofed dwelling. Lower clown, Air Buglass was to be seen excavating and levelling off his frontage, additions to his cottage having just been completed. At All* and Mrs Ballinger’s residence, a few doors further on. could be seen the Hurry of shavings and the taptap tapping of more delicate workmanship was heard. A small launch with sails is taking shape which, when finished, will be an acquisition to the river fleet.
