At the recent Pahiatua County Council meeting Cr. Bolton reported that he had had a party of South African visitors staying with him. During their stay he had taken them over some of the back country roads. The members passed complimentary remarks about how tho roads were kept, saying that in South Africa on the back roads they had to renew shock absorbers aßout every six months on new cars. Constable N. Prussing, officer in charge of the Pahiatua police station, has received word of his transfer to Martinborough, where he will take charge of the local station in succession to Constable M. Roache, who recently resigned from the Force to enter business. Constable Prussing, who has been stationed in Pahiatua since 1933, will be succeeded by Sergeant Bonisch, of Port Ahuriri, Napier. The transfer is not effective for at least a fortnight. Last Friday tenders for the erection of the proposed State houses in Pahiatua closed in Wellington. Mr. E. H. Lett, who was a tenderer for the dwellings, was advised that no tenders were being considered for acceptance as the prices submitted were considered by the State Housing Department to be too high.
