Tennis Dance
FUNCTION AT MANGAMUTU The Mangamutu Tennis Club wound up a very enjoyable day—the opening of their new courts—with a danco in the Mangamutu Hall on Saturday eveThough the crowd was not as large as anticipated, the strenuous tennis during the day having possibly discouraged a number from further terpsichoreau efforts at night, the hall was comfortably filled for dancing and the evening was most enjoyable. Brooker’s Star Orchestra from Woodville provided unusually good music and Dave O’Brien, was M.C. As extras Messrs. Spellman and Brooker played several duets, and Mr. Brooker's xylophone solos were warmly received. Three items by juvenile performers—a Dutch dance by Barbara Burgess and Isabel Heayns, an Irish jig by Shirley Heayns, and a tap duo by the two lastnamed performers—were heartily applauded. All were fine efforts, particularly the tap duo, which reflected great credit on the ability of both the teacher (Miss Jan Scott) and the pupils. A very happy evening was brought to a close when supper was served at midnight.
