TITLE WON BY SKOGLUND (NORTHERN) The Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual champion of champions singles contest w r as staged on Saturday, when the honours went to P. O. Skoglund (Northern), woh defeated Howe (Foxton) in the iinal. Representatives of 13 clubs came forward, and play was decided on the knock-out system. The Northern Club’s green was used for the contest. The green was very keen, and with a north-westerly wind, playing conditions were very tricky, leading to some erratic bowling. Detailed results were as follow: •First Round: P. O. Skoglund (Northern) beat Eketahuna by default; W. Child (Palmerston North) 16 beat P. H. Mules (Woodville) 15, W. Howe (Foxton) 20 beat R. H. Taylor (Pahiatua) 16, C. Corbridge (Manawatu) 21 beat R. Allen (Terrace End) 10, A. E. Ramsay (Feilding) 19 beat W. Monks (Takaro) 11, A. D. Hamilton (Oroua) 21 beat H. S. Powell (Levin) 15. Semi-finals: Howe 21 beat Child 13, Skoglund 25 beat Ramsay 17. Final: Skoglund 18 beat Howe 13. Bailey the Champion Colt. The colts champion of champions singles proved a popular event on Saturday on the Manawatu bowling green. The green played excellently, with a good even draw on both hands. The 11 competing clubs have certainly some very promising bowlers of good class representing them. A pleasing feature right through the day was the lack of silly driving shots, . the players concentrating on sound single play, steady drawing the kitty, even with an opponent’s bowl off the jack. Mr. E. A. Shand, who has interested himself in the colts’ welfare and competitions for them in the Manawatu Club this season, umpired the day’s play for the centre. Of the four players in the semi-finals and final Bailey (Terrace End) showed a very accurate length and sound drawing. He is a very promising player. Nottle, of Oroua, was not quite as accurate on the longer heads, but is a steady player. Seator, the Palmerston North, representative, is a good-class bowler with a good future, asd W* Winds, of the Manawatu Club, will certainly prove a brilliant bowler with another season giving him necessary match experience. The results were:— First round: Palmerston North 29 beat Hokowhitu 12, Northers 22 beat Foxton 19, Terrace End 19 beat Takaro 15, Dannevirke 20 beat Woodville 16. Second round: Terrace End beat Eketahuna by default, Oroua 23 beat Feilding 12, Manawatu 24 beat Dannevirke 11, Palmerston North 19 beat Northern 13.
