Royal Romance was better backed than Riotous for the Fordell Hack. Hurdles, but the favourite was again unlucky, his saddle slipping, and Riotous improved on his first day's third placing to win nicely.

Lifeguard again went out to establish a big lead, being ten lengths in front of Count Willonyx, Kentucky Song and Riotous at the first hurdle and increasing the gap to twenty lengths passing the stands, whore Count. Willonyx was clear of Kentucky Song, and Riotous. At the six furlongs Lifeguard compounded and Count Willonyx jumped to the front at the five furlongs, with Riotous also closing the gap, Royal Romance being a long way back. On the home turn Riotous had headed Lifeguard and set out after Count Willonyx, whom he caught as soon as they cleared the last hurdle. In the run home Riotous held off Count Willonyx to win by a neck. Eight lengths back was Kentucky Song, with a gap of two lengths to Lifeguard. Russian Ballet Wins Decisively. Russian Ballet was backed down to a short .price in the Sedgebrook Juvenile and she won convincingly. Filetto moved out with Russian Ballet but within a hundred yards the favourite had been joined by Footloose and the; pair drew well clear from Filetto, Royal Ace, Drachma and Prime Quality. The loaders still a long way in front on the home turn, but Prime Quality and Drachma were bridging the gap as Footloose was headed by Russian Ballet. Tlie favourite ran home an easy winner, but Drachma got up on the rails over the last few yards to beat Prime Quality and Footloose for the second dividend, heads separating the three. Then came Filetto, with a gsip to Segra. Win for Sigurd. Sigurd was twice as well backed as Fafner and Gold Band in the Landguard Maiden and eventually won easily from the locally-owned Golden Pam. Gold Band and Golden Pam led out from Fafner and Sigurd, and at the half-mile Sigurd had run into third place behind Gold Band and Golden Pam, Fafner dropping back to fourth. Crossing the top Golden Pam and Gold Band were together, with Sigurd moving up, and on the home turn the favourite got through on the inside, coming on to win by three-quarters of a length. Golden Pam hung on for second place, a head in front of Scarf Dance, with Gold Band another head away. -Whistle Pinkie was next after a gap. Alloa Beats Royal Chief. Alloa was just a little better backed than Royal Choice in the Brunswick Hack Handicap, and the pair returned the dividends. War Lap showed out first from Alloa, Royal Choice, Malibu and Bonny Glow, and then Royal Choice ran up to the leader and they ran past the half-mile four lengths ahead of Alloa, Malibu and Bon ay Glow. Royal Choice ran into a definite lead crossing the top, being two lengths in front of War Lap, with Alloa making up ground two lengths away. Once they straightened up Alloa came tl trough and was winning easily when Choice made a dab on the inner, the favourite getting the verdict by a head. War Lap came again to finish third, half a length away, and Bonny Glow was next, clear of Malibu and Maahanui. Gaily—From End to End; Naughty Marietta was .preferred to Gaily in the Harrison Hack Handicap, but Gaily led all the way. Running out of the straight Gaily took the lead, Amatory running up to second berth with Parry, and a gap back to Student Prince and Naughty Marietta. At the six furlongs Gaily was a couple of lengths ahead of Parry, with Amatory a length away and a gap of five lengths to Student Prince. Amatory moved up again crossing the top and was two lengths behind Gaily on the home turn, Parry being next and Student Prince commencing his run. Gaily came on to win by three lengths, Student Pflnce just failing by a short head to catch Amatory. Parry was fourth. Icing Beats Tiger Gain. It was an even pool registered on the six chances in the Earle Stakes, Tiger Gain being favourite, only £l6O better backed than Icing, who beat him narrowly but convincingly. Running out of the straight The Bigot, Tiger Gain, Sergia and Lowenberg were on terms, but The Bigot ran into the lead entering the back stretch, where Tiger Gain, Middle, The Buzzer and Lowenberg were next and there was a gap bad: to Sergia and Icing. The last-named made up ground toward the half-mile and continued her run to join Tiger Gain across the top, The Bigot dropping back to third and Lowenberg and Middle being next. Icing was doing it just as well as Tiger Gain on the home turn and hit the front at the distance. Tiger Gain made another dab but failed by a neck to catch Icing. Two lengths back was Lowenberg, with Middle and The Bigot on terms, just altiead of Sergia. As the result of an inquiry after the race C. P. Sheila, rider of Tiger Gain, was stood down 1 for a month for interference. TrebOr—A Short-priced Favourite. Nothing but Trebor was wanted in the Matarawa Hack Handicap, and the Speardance geld:ing had over £IOOO invested on his chances, his backers getting a short price when he won from 1 Amoroso. Amoroso moved out ahead of Captain l Treville and Rhodesian, but the lastnamed ran into the lead at the five fur-

longs, with* Amoroso, Some Brandy, Captain Treville and Cloak next, Trebor being at the rear. Crossing the top Rhodesian was still in front of Amoroso and Some Brandy, with Trebor moving up on the outside of Captain Treville. Once they straightened up, the first four in line ahead of Trebor, but the last-named got through at the distance and won by half a length from Amoroso, who was a length in front of Captain Treville. Rhodesian was next, and there were gaps back to Some Brandy and Cloak. Notium Goes One Better. Laughing Lass was favourite for tfte open sprint but she received a set back at the three furlongs and she finished last. The field galloped in line for a couple of furlongs and Aureus, Notium and Laughing Lass were just in front of the other two: Crossing the top Aureus showed the way and she was attended to the straight by Race Calf, Laughing Lass and Notium. Then Race Call headed Aureus but could not withstand the challenge from Notium Who won nicely by half a length from Raco Call with Aureus over a length further away.
