Wife Made to Tell Court Martial

SURPRISE AT R.A.F. INQUIRY Questions about a woman witness’s !private life surprised a court-martial at Tangmero (Sussex) Aerodrome. Pilot-Officer Deni 3 Bamber was accused of low flying over Ashtree Farm, near Alton (Hants). It was stated that. Mr and Mrs George Hoekham, the occupiers, had sustained serious loss of poultry and other damage. The defending officer, Flight-Lieut. Donaldson, demanded that Mrs Hockham be c alled, and when she appeared he asked her if her present marriage was bigamous. Mrs Hoekham denied this, but agreed she was an undischarged bankrupt. Questioned about previous claims in which she had been concerned, she agreed that she brought a claim for £6OO damages after an accident when breaking in a horse, but said that this was 17 yi?ars ago. The defending officer then aaked if

slie could produce her marriage certificate and Mrs Hoekham replied: “Most decidedly. * * The Acting Judge-Advocate said it was most distressing that the defending officer should put questions of this sort. Pilot Officer Bamber had admitted flying low, and whether the claim of Mr and Mrs Hockhaiu was genuine or not had nothing to do with the case.
