Feilding Golf Club

The annual meeting of the Feilding Golf Club was held last evening, Mr. D. C. Cullinane (president) presiding over an excellent attendance.

Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet the president said that the activities over the past year had been productive of considerable improvements to the course and club-house. The club was indebted to the beautifying committee for their voluntary w-ork in beautifying the club’s property. The club had, during the year, acquired new machinery, and was now well equipped for maintaining the links in first-class condition. Concluding Mr. Cullinane paid a tribute to the work of the committee, saying that .he had been unable, owing to ill-health, to play any part of real consequence in that work. However, the club had the advantage of the services of many zealous officails whose work in the interests of the property was reflected in the very much improved condition revealed. The motion was seconded by Mr. A. C. McCorkindale and Mr. T. S. Goldsmith, hon. treasurer, reviewed the finances, recommending that now that the new lay-out had been completed the committee should pursue a conservative policy in the matter of expenditure., Mr. E. Fair offered the suggestion that, members should endeavour to secure additional members. With an 18hole course the club could accommodate a ; considerably increased membership. The report was adopted without further discussion. The election of officers resulted as ollows: President, Mr. S. A. Gover; vice-president, Mr. C. H. Tate; club captain, Mr. J. Connell; trustee, Mr. J. Graham; hon. treasurer, Mr. T. IS. Goldsmith; hon. auditor, Mr. A. H. Maguire; vacancies on the committee, Messrs. V. J. Stichbury and R. H. Farquharson; hon. secretary, Mr. P. CJ. Miles. Mr. Graham paid a tribute to tho work of the retiring president, who had taken a very active part in the affairs of the club up until the time ill health compelled him to enter hospital. All were pleased to know that Mr. Cullinane was now restored to health. (Applause.) Mr. Gover said that all realised that the club had a most popular president in Mr. Cullinane who would now, he hoped, have more time to enjoy the game. Mr. G. M. Moffitt supported the previous speakers and in reply Mr. Cullinane said that he had always been happy to do all he could for the welfare of the club. He had enjoyed the pleasure of the work on the committee. On the motion of the president the meeting accorded the ladies’ committee * hearty vote of thanks. Mr. Gover made special mention of the work of Mrs. T. Donaldson who had charge of the refreshment arrangements. Mr. Goldsmith proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring committeemen and secretary and this was supported by Mr. W. E. Carthew and carried by acclamation. The thanks of the meeting were also passed to Mesdames R. L. Harding, L. Gorton, and Miss M. Burrell for their beautifying work.
