So humid was the weather in Hamilton on Sunday that male members of the congregation at the Baptist Church sat through most of the service in their shirt-sleeves after the Minister had invited them to take their coats off. Although all doors and all windows in the church were fully open, the atmosphere was oppressively hot, and no one was surprised when some members of the congregation appeared in tennis shirts open at the neck. When the choir took their seats the male members had discarded their coats and had their sleeves rolled up. Shortly after the service began, the minister, the Rev. G. C. Reay, stated that in no town in New Zealand were the evenings as hot as they were in Hanftlton at this time of the year. He invited members of the congregation to make themselves comfortable and to discard their coats if they wished. Many present adopted the suggestion.
