From Our Own Correspondent. The Apiti Women's Institute Group commenced a series of box lectures, supplied by the Sarah Anne Rhodes Fellowship in Home Science through Massey College, on Thursday evening last, when the group met at the home of Mrs C. M. Stanley. The hostess acted as leader and read the lecture on the history of nursing. All members participated in the discussion and benefitted by opinions shared. Supper was served, and a vote of thanks was passed to the secretary. Miss Stanley, and to the hostess. Anglican Church. The quarterly meeting or St. Duke’s Church committee met on Friday evening at the home of Mrs M. E. A. Martin. Also present were Mesdames W. J. Vlles, A. E. Prujean, Miss Stanley, Messrs W. J. Viles and R. Martin. It was decided to arrange for a working bee to scythe the grass in the church grounds. Brian Prujean has kindly offered to keep the grass mowed after it is scythed . Mrs. Martin served supper. General. Apiti experienced a severe thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, followed, by torrential rain, which many residents report as being the heaviest rainstorm remembered in this district. There was an interruption in’ the electric power - service, but tho linesmen arrived before six o'clock and the residents on the main road beyond Apiti were able to finish the evening milking by machines. The storm also curtailed activities at the combined Oddfellows’ Lodges’ nfcnic at London’s Ford, although there were not very many Apiti members and families present. Personal. Rev. D. Martin and Mrs Martin, of Feilding, are staying with Mr W. Martin, at Table Flat. Mr and Mrs T. K. McLean and family have returned from their holiday at Titahi Bay. Mr A. Stanley is on a holiday visit to Hawke’s Bay. Miss W. Oakley, of Havelock North, L the guest of Miss Stanley. Mr and Mrs L. Pickering were Feilding visitors spending the week-end yvlth Mr and Mrs A.
