While drawing trucks at Port Chalmers, a valuable horse fell over the end of the export wharf. A young man who witnessed the mishap jumped in fully clothed and endeavoured to lead the animal to the shore. The horse was panic-stricken, however, and the services of the little steamer Tarewai had to be called to rescue it and tow it to the beach.
