Successful Garden Party For Central School Funds

Instead of the usual gala day to augment Central School amenities' fund, the ladies' committee, headed by Mrs. D. Evans, yesterday held a most successful garden party in the picturesque grounds surrounding the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bodell, Wood street. The grounds were ideal for the function, the garden beds filled with sweet-scented roses and smooth green lawns with sheltering shrubs providing the setting. {Streamers of bunting anu llags 2>i<jciuimcd the festive occasion tor which the energetic committee was early on the job, ail combining happily for the cause so dear to their hearts.

The baby show attracted attention, the judge, Mrs. K. Bean, having an unenviable task, and there was Keen competition for sweets and cakes, of which Mesdames A. J. lxussell and W. J. Croucher were the judges.

Races for the children were also keenly contested, and iu the evening there was dancing and games on the lawn.

The stalls and stall-holders were at follow:—Cakes, Mesdames W. J. Fitzgerald and J. Denham; sweets, Mesdames W. Garden, J. Cribb and A. G. Britton; produce, Mesdames T. Drake, D. Evans aud Miss Drake; baby show, Mesdames G. {Shelley and G. li. Jarrett; tea-rooms, Mesdames {Spencer, T. Turnbull, G. Brogden and A. Lavin; icecreams, Mesdames Bodtyii and Jamieson; jumble stall, Mrs. G. Farrar. Lending valuable assistance was Mr. G Farrar, secretary of the men’s committee.

Competition results: —Baby show: Boys, over six months, Robert Rossiter; Mrs. Dean’s special, John Warder; under six months, Bill Bodell. Girls, under six months, Hilda Prodger; over six months, Barbara Harding. Sponge cake competition: Adults, Miss Jordan; children, Eileen Robinson. Sweets: Pat Eglinton. Mrs. Russell’s special: Peter Dawson.
