The Appeal Court has cancelled the conviction of Mrs Violet Norton, the Canadian, who was found guilty cn an extortion charge in connection with the film actor, Clark Gable. Mrs Norton, who is aged 47, was arrested in Los Angeles in January and charged with attempting to obtain money from Gable by claiming that he was the father of her 13-year-old daughter, who was born in England. Mrs. Norton claimed that when she saw the actor on the screen she recognised him. , The trial commenced in April of this year. Mrs. Norton will now be released from pAson, and will rejoin her children in Canada. The attorney for Mrs. Norton argued that there was no fraud, because Gable had never been in England, and for this reason was aware that he could not be the father of the child. The attorney added that Mrs. Norton had acted in good faith. On the opening day of the trial, a sensation was caused when Gable entered the Court, the accused crying repeatedly: “That ia him!"
