Argentine Government To Bake Bread
BAKERS REFUSE TO REDUCE PRICE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7.5 p.m. BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 29. A Government decree prohibits the exportation of wheat and flour until further notice. The Minister of War simultaneously ordered all the Army’s baking equipment to be concentrated here. Similarly the national penitentiary 's bakeries will be ready to operate to full capacity to supply bread to the public. These steps have been taken as a result of the refusal by 250 of the city's principal bakeries to reduce the price of bread and again to increase the size of a loaf. Bakeries claim the price of flour is excessive. A conference of bakers and millers proved futile. The latter, however, are agreeing to supply the Government with flour under the market price. The distribution of bread has long been a serious social and economic problem, and a strong public demand has persisted for a national government solution of the problem. The embargo is expected to last a month.
