Lofty Blomfield Dominion Champion

EARNS RIGHT TO MEET WOFvLD TITLE-HOLDER Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The final of the New Zealand wrestling championship was decided on .iaiurday evening when “Lofty” Blomlieid, of Auckland, defeated «ioe Woods, of America, by two falls to one. The winner thus earned the right of proceeding to America for a match against Bronco Nagurski, holder of the world’s title. The three falls were all submission ones. The first was gained by Woods in the fourth round by means or a Boston crab. This had been preceded by a series of fore arm jolts. There was a further exchange of powerful fore-arm jolting in the seventh round before Blomfield obtained a reverse toehold which he converted into an octopus clamp. Woods refused to give in for several seconds and after he did so he had to be assisted to his corner, whero his second massaged his rib muscles. Woods limped out when the gong sounded for the final rouud. He was subjected to another barrage of jolts before being tripped preparatory to the application of a secoad octopus clamp. He resisted for some time before submitting and he was once more lifted to his corner. Upon the conclusion of the ’ oul the championship belt was placed round Blomfield.

NOLAND BEATS WADE Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Last Night. Meeting in the concluding bout of the 1937 season, Wade and Noland gave a fair attendance little to enthuse ©\er in a bout last night, which was won by Noland by two falls to one. Wade secured a fall in round three with a body press following halches. Jn round five Noland threw Wade from the ring three times, Wale injuring his leg on the Press table and being unable to return to the ring in 20 seconds, was unable to continue and the bout was awarded to Noland.
