MEETING AT HUTT PARK. FORERUNNER OF MANAWATU MEETING. HORSES WITH GOOD PROSPECTS. (By C.E.C.) The Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park to-day gives a reminder that the Manawatu November fixture is drawing close, and when the Wellington clashes are over, many owners and trainers will turn their attention towards Awapuni. The beautiful racecourse at Palmerston North has in recent years become a popular rendezvous for trotting enthusiasts, and the coming meeting will be equally attractive as those of the last few seasons. Many horses are engaged at Hutt Park, who have already displayed their wares to a Palmerston North' public, and some of them are likely to show to advantage. Supertax, who has good prospects in the New Zealand Cup Trial, did his early racing at Awapuni, where he showed a lot of promise. He made good progress to reach high grade, and last year won the Cup Trial and at the August Addington meeting beat a fine lot of sprinters. Bronte, who was second in the two miles at tho last Manawatu meeting and subsequently won at Hamilton, will have friends for his Petone and President’s Handicap engagements. Tan John, who beat Bronte at Awapuni, was second to the good trotter, Te Kahu, at the Auckland August meeting, is also in both trotting events, but has reached a difficult mark. Ho trots solidly, but is not as brilliant as Franz Derby, who, however, established a hard line when she ran second at Addington. Sandusky is Good. Sandusky, whose remarkable finish for a two-year-old ar, the April meeting, will not be readily forgotten, is sitting nicely on the front of the Borough Handicap. Sandusky has finished into a fine type of three-year-old, and the race at Wellington will tune him for his contest with Refund and Twos Loose in the New Zealand Derby. When he failed at Awapuni, through making a bad beginning, Snowy Bingen showed a good turn of speed, and left tho impression that be would, with a little more experience, prove useful. He reached a place at the last Wellington meeting and may show further improvement this time. Ropata won his first—oniy race—at the spring meeting last season and aftei giving a creditable race in the Auckland Derby failed to improve. If age has played its part, Ropata should be a better horse this season. Guy Zolock also scored his only success at Palmerston North, but his subsequent form was not very attractive. Ho recently appeared in the picture again and may be shewing his best form again. Worthy Audubon won well at Wanganui in March, after being narrowly defeated at Wellington by Queenie Direct, who has gone to Hastings with-J. A. Gerrard. Worthy Audubon was not equal to giving Sandusky 36 yards at Awapuni, but he has a chance at Wellington off the same mark in the Novice Handicap. It is some time since C. S. Donald raced Plutus at Palmerston North as a novice, but the black pacer has climbed the ladder successfully and is now among the smart sprinters set down to contest the Wellington Handicap and she is not without useful prospects. Horses From Takanini. The very successful Takanini trainerreinsman, F. J. Smith, who won sis races at Epsom, will be in the picture at Hutt Park and Addington with Sandusky, Ironside, Bonny Azure and King’s Warrior. Ironside won the Bollard Memorial Handicap at the last Wellington meeting, was second in the Electric Handicap, and will take a power of beating in the October Handicap. Bonny Azure is brilliant and it will take an exceptionally good sprinter to head her in the Cup Trial. King’s Warrior’s run at Epsom was a good test for his New Zealand Cup race, and he may also have a run at Wellington; King's Warrior is a great stayer and he will have a fine chance of giving Smith a winning drive in the Dominion’s big event at Addington. Horses who may be well supported at Hutt Park are:— Petone Handicap: Winnie Parrish, Tommy Boy. Novice Handicap: Snowy Bingen, Sans Parell, Worthy Audubon. October Handicap: Ironside, Frisco Lady, Blair Atholl. Cup Trial: Bonny Azure, De Soto, Village Guy. President's Handicap: Bronte, Tommy Boy. Borough Handicap: Sandusky, Bill Grattan, De La Paix. Short Handicap: King's Jubilee, Sewana, Snowy Bingen. Wellington Handicap: Southern Smile, Plutus, Casanova. CANTERBURY CLASSICS. DECLARATION OF FORFEITS.
