Pigs, Poultry and Produce

The Dominion Auctioneering Coy, Palmerston North, reports receiving a Very large entry of pigs at their weekly fair held on Thursday. There was an exceptionally keen demand with buyers present from all parts of the district, and was quite the best sale held during recent weeks. Best weaners realized up to 31s each, porkers 58s and slips 28s. Weaners in particular this year have been in great demand, and seldom have prices been lower than 20s each. We had a yarding of 100 pens of poultry, competition being keen for all lines. Ducklings and cockerels commanding very keen competition. Fruit was in tho usual supply with the first of the seasons hot-house tomatoes realizing 2s per pound. Quotations are as follows:—

Pigs.—Best Aveaners, 24s to 31s each, small weaners, 18s to 20s; slips, 26s to 2Ss; stores, 34s fid; porkers to 58s; pedigree, sows 3 months old, 2| gns.; pedigree boars, 3 months old 24 gns. Poultry.—Heavy cockerels, from 7s to 9s per pair; light cockerels from 6s to 8s per pair; fat roosters from Gs to Ss per pair; light roosters 5s to 6s Gd per pair; fat 8.0. hens from 7s to 8s per pair; W.L. hens from 7s to 8s per pair; light hens 5s to Gs per pair; young ducks from 7s to 8s fid per pair; light ducks from 6s to 6s 6d per pair; turkey hens 7s each; 8 week-old cockerels from 4d to Is each; 12 week-old cockerels from Is 6d to 2s 4d each; hens and chicks from 9s to 10s each; duck and ducklings from 10s to 13s. Fruit. —Pears, Winter Coles, 10s to 12s per £ bushel; P. Barry, from 10s to 11s Gd per £ bushel; apples, Sturmerls, from 8s 6d to 11s per bushel; Delicious, 8s to 11s; Dougherties, from Gs fid to 8s 6d per bushel; hothouse tomatoes, from Is 7d to 2s per pound; lemons best, from 10s to 12s per case, others 6s to 9s per case; carrots, from 8d to Is per bundle; parsnips, from 8s to 10s fid per case; lettuce, from 2s 6d to 8s 6d per cajje; onions, from 20s to 22s per bag; spinach, from 2s to 4s Gd per case; cabbage, from 2s Gd to 5s fid per case; cauliflowers, from 7s to 14s fid per case; leeks, from 9d to Is 3d per bundle; potatoes, from 12s to 13s per cwt.; new potatoes, from 2d to 24d per pound; Rhubarb, from 5d to lOd per bundle; asparagus, from Gd to lOd per bundle.
