Pahiatua Ladies’ Golf Final

On Thursday the final of the ladies' handicap cup was played on the Pahiatua links between Mrs G. G. Nelson and Miss Lee Arrow, the former, who was recently defeated in the final of the club championsnip, winning 2 and 1. Mrs Nelson, who had to concede strokes at the first and the thirteenth hole, was two down at the end of the first nine holes, Miss Arrow returning a brilliant 42 to her 44. Miss Arrow's golf going out was exceptionally good, her card embracing bogey figures at the first, third and seventh holes, there being only one lapso—a seven at the second. Going home with a lead of two, Miss Arrow took a five for the tenth, which Mrs Nelson did in an even four. The next two holes were halved in 5 and 6 and at the thirteenth Mrs Nelson squared the match with an opportune birdie four, Miss Arrow having a decidedly bad patch. The fourteenth was halved in sixes and the next three holes went to Mrs Nelson, who was one over bogey every time. Miss Arrow was unable to regain her early form and the match thus finished at the seventeenth hole. The Rose-bowl Pinal, In the afternoon the final of the Rosebowl four-ball was decided, when Mesdames G. G. Nelson and S. K. Siddells defeated Misses Lee Arrow and Eileen Hoggard, 4 and 3. Despite the hard uphill game she had played in the morning, Mrs Nelson was in deadly form for the encounter, this being a deciding factor in the contest. The winners held the lead from the first hole, which was taken in par. The next two were halved and the fourth went their way, with one over bogey. The fifth was also halved and a bogey at the sixth put Mesdames Nelson and Siddells three up. Their opponents won the short seventh in par and played the next two on terms, thus going on one down. On the tenth and eleventh Mesdames Nelson and Siddells drew away to a four-up lead, but lost the twelfth by a handicap stroke. The next two were halved and a bogey at the short fifteenth put the issue beyond all doubt, giving Mesdames Nelson and Siddells a well-deserved win by 4 and 3.
