Liners Held Up in Stream
NOTIFIABLE CASES OF SICKNESS ABOARD Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. Each possessing a case of notifiable sickness aboard, the liners Orion and Mariposa were obliged to anchor in the stream to await tlio granting of medical pratique upon their arrival at Auckland from Brisbane and San Francisco respectively to-day. With both flying the yellow quarantine flag, they were a source of conjecture on the waterfront until permission to berth was granted by the port health officer. Only slight delay was caused in the case of the Mariposa, which was temporarily quarantined on account of her possessing a case of chickenpox. The patient, who was a young Auckland girl, and her mother, were placed in isolation shortly after tho vessel left Honolulu, and it was found unnecessary to postpone berthing. A mild case of measles was discovered aboard the Orion, and few of her 860 passengers were aware that her short stay in the stream was not part of the intended programme. During the run to New Zealand a young man also developed symptoms of acute appendicitis, and shortly after the liner berthed he was removed to the Auckland Hospital.
