Accident at Feilding Saleyards

ELDERLY MAORI SUFFERS ! SERIOUS INJURY Falling down a rather steep stairway in the cattlo pavilion at the Feilding saleyards yesterday afternoon, an elder- ■ ly Maori from Awahuri, named Punga Graham, had his right ear almost severed from his head. The stairway leads from the gallery of the selling ring to the concrete floor below, where the auctioneers' offices are located, and Graham was proceeding down when he overbalanced, falling head first to the floor below. As he fell his head came in contact with the wooden side of the staircase and the sharp edge almost severed the ear. Dr K. G. Salmond was summoned, and after rendering first aid had the injured man removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. Dr. Salmond stated that he considered the ear would be saved.
