SMALL STOCK ENTRIES

All Sections in Short Supply at Waipukurau “VHEEP SELL WELL From Our Own t'orrespondent. HASTINGS, Oct. ID. An unusually small offering was made at the Waipukurau sale to-day. The preincipal entries were a few pens of store sheep which sold particularly i well, especially for the shorn lots. Fat, and forward shorn 4-tooth wethers | brought 25/-, and the new season’s shorn 2-tooths realised 22/1. Small-1 grown, shorn 2-tooth wethers, in light j condition, made good selling at 17/6. Unshorn pens were no cheaper to buyers. The fat pops consisted of a few heavy wethers and well finished hoggets. The cattle pens were deserted, there being onlj four Jersey cows offered. The continued dry weather accounted for the absence of store cattle. Realisations were as under FAT SHEEP. Niue heavy prime crossbred wethers ■showing quality sold at 37/-. A small entry of prime, medium to heavy Down cress hoggets sold at 31/-. Two well-woolled heavy Romney ; prime quality hoggets realised 40/-. STORE SHEEP. An entry of 132 nicely grown Romney wether hoggets, in fresh condi- • tion, brought 29 1. These well woolled hoggets were iu forward order and very healthy making an attractive line which should come off the shears in good order. A line of 100 Romney wether hog- | gets, shorn as lambs, being an uneven entry lacking condition and in poor order, made a particularly good sale at 22/1. CATTLE PRICES. ] A light finished young Jersey cow, in good killable condition, sold at £o 10/ - . . I An entry of one unfinished aged Jersey cow y being only boner quality, was passed at £3 16/-. A second calver Jersey cross cow with a calf at foot, brought £5. problems from Whitehall. Only the far mer can manage them. You cannot suddenly change the cropping rotation. You cannot suddenly turn an arable farm economically into a dairy-farm or fatten bullocks on youi dairy farm just because Whitehall puts a subsidy on them. Leave the domestic part of the farm to the farmer, give him a fair proportion of the consumer’s price, and this farming problem will fade away.
