FIRST ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP The first annual championship of the club was decided last Saturday, when D. I. Robertson added the title to the tennis titles of the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club and Alanawatu Lawn Tennis Association which he won last season. Rees beat Kissling 9—5, o—j 9—l; Rowlands beat McGrath, 9—5, 9 —3, 9 —2. In the third round Robertson beat Rodgers 9 —5, 6 —9 s, 9—2, 2 —9, 9—2; Cope beat T. Young, 9 —5, 9—5, 7 —9, 9 —4; Rowlands beat Rees 9 —3, 9—o, 9—3.
in the semi-finals Robertson beat Cope 9 —2, 9—5, 9—3 and Rowlands neat Griggs 9 —4, 9 —o, 9—3. in the final Robertson beat Rowlands 99 —5 7 9 —6. In the first game Robertson went away to s—o. Rowland took the score to 7 —3, and Robertson ran out at 9 —4. In the second game Robertson went to 3 —o and 7 —2, again winning at 9 —4. Rowlands took the first point in the third game, and Robertson the next three. Rowlands drew equal at 3—3, but Robertson again forged ahead to 6—3. Rowlands took the next two points, and then Robertson took the last. three for set and match.
