Martin-McMahon Fight
GOOD EXHIBITION PROMISED. Surpassing ill interest recent boxing bouts staged in Hawke's Bay, the return fixture between Billy Martin, of Australia, and Jack McMahon, of Palmerston North, to be decided at tho , Municipal Theatre, Hastings, to-night is | confidently expected to draw a packed (house. Among the first flight of welterweights in Australia aud New Zealand, the principals in tho star contest will return patrons good value for their money. Their styles are vastly different, but blend to a nicety and there is never a dull moment. McMahon is of the tear-in, non-stop fighter variety with a wonderful capacity for absorbing punishment. On the other hand, Martin is a very strong defensive boxer who can mix it with the best when he finds the going that way. Commenting upon their recent muchsays: “McMahon made many friends by his relentless, wade-in tactics and his ability to absorb punishment. He showed a very clever smother, using his j arms and elbows to good effect. He also did good body punching in the clinches. Martin showed ability to punch well, notably with his left, some of his rips to McMahon’s body and head causing the New Zealand boy’s supporters some anxious moments.
