Longburn
From Our Own Correspondent. On Saturday evening a smoke concert was held by the staff of the KaJranga Dairy Company. Among toasts honoured wero “Directors,” “Suppliers.” “Dairy Division,” “Commercial Travellers," and “Ladies.” Items were as follow: Songs, Alessrs C. Sherriffs, D. Rowe. R. Watkins. J, Davidson; humorous items. Alessrs J. Ren wick and J. Davidson. Air J. Renwick presided at the piano. The opportunity was taken of making a presentation to Air W. Toohey, a member of the faotory staff who is shortly leaving for Newbury. Mr F. G. Brown, factory manager, expressed appreciation of Air Toohey’s sterling qualities and their regret at his impending departure, and on behalf of the staff handed to Air Toohey a travelling bag. Numerous others spoke of Mr Toohey’s services to the company. Air Toohey suitably replied. An enjoyable evening ended with the singing ou “Auld Lang Syne.” Euchre Tournament. There was a good attendance at. the fortnightly euchre held on Tuesday evening. Airs I. Day was the winner of the ladies' prize and Mrs Larsen won the consolation. In the men’s section All* A. Sanson secured the first prize. Ping Pong. An enjoyable evening was held on Tuesday when Hokowhitu C team played Longburn. The games resulted In a win lor Longburn by 24 games to 12. Following are the results, Longburn players being mentioned first:— W. Dilks beat Blake, Rollo, Sykes, Blair, Hills; lost to White. T. Temperton beat Blake. Rollo, Hills; lost to White, Sykes, Blair. D. AlcClelland beat Blake. White, Rollo, lost to Sykes, Blair and Hills. John Holland beat Blake. Rollo, Sykes* lost to White, Hills and Blair; Al. Sherriffs beat Rollo. Blake, Sykes, Blair. Hills; lost to White. . R. Dilks beat Blake, Rollo. Sykes, Blau Hills; lost to White. In the weekly play for the Birch badges the matches resulted in a win for Aiiss Tv. Hill in the ladies’ section, and for Air R. Berry in the men’s. Personal. Air C. Graydon. of Tokoroa. is at present the guest of Air and Airs J. Holland. Mrs Butler and Mr F. Butler, of Tokoroa, are staying with Mr and Mrs Francis. Rifle Club. The following scores were recorded at the weekly shoot of the Longburn Miniature Rifle Club:—W. Birch 139, A. Hey 138, H. Mabey 136. J. Aldersiey 136, A. Gale 135, H. Colir 134, G. Hoffman 134, C. Cooksley 131, E. Strong 126. W. Francis 123, W. Franklin, 104. The Birch buttons were won by W. Birch in the A grade, and A. Key in the B. grade. A. Key also won. tho handicap prize.
