Food for Farm Hands

HAMILTON, July 13. j The fact that only 10s is allowed to r cover tho cost of food supplied by emt ployers to farm hands under the Agri--5 cultural Workers Act was attacked by , several speakers at tho provincial conference of tho Farmers’ Union to-day. It was considered a more reasonable figure would bo 15s. ’ “Apart from tho fact that the ’ average farm hand will eat much more ’ chan 10s worth of food a week, the cost of preparing the food should be considered and also the work on the part of the housewife," said Mr A. Briscoc-Moorc. 44 At least 5s should . be allowed for this.”

Members said the 10s had been fixed before prices began to rise, and that it was now quite insufficient. It was decided to suggest to tho responsible authority that the factors mentioned should be considered when the value of board and lodging was again under review'.
