Women’s Institutes
SHANNON Owing, no doubt, to the very wintry conditions, there was only a small attendance at the June meeting. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Allen in the death of her brother, and to Mrs Alexander in the loss of her father-in-law. A wish for his speedy recovery was also sent to Mr Ilallam, in his indisposition. Members were initiated into the use of the “post-bag” at meetings, and it is hoped that this will prove of interest and benifit to all. The competition for the annual points prize for the “best bloom in my garden,” brought, in a good entry, in spite of the rough day, and the result of the judging was as follows:—Miss Aim 1; Mrs Burling 2; Mrs Stern 3* A “bring and buy stall” for the federation funds brought in £1 3s 2d and it is intended to hold the stall again next month, so that all members have tho chance to assist in this worthy object. As the speaker for tho day was unable to attend, Mr Taylor gave a lengthy and interesting description of the Women’s Institute stalls at the winter show. Next month Mrs Aim will give a demonstration of making wood-pulp flowers, and the flowing month it is hoped to have a visit from Miss Grant, president of the North Wellington Federation*
