Terrible Polish Pogrom

20,000 JEWS AT MERCY OF MOB PEASANTS INCITED BY FASCISTS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 12.55 a.m. LONDON, May 26. The Manchester Guardian’s Brestlitovsk special correspondent discloses aetails of a terrible Polish pogrom at Brestlitovsk lasting 15 hours during which the Jewish population of 22,000 was at the mercy of the mob. Whole streets of houses and shops were wrecked and looted and synagogues and schools demolished, while hundreds of the poorer Jews were ruined. The rioters were chiefly peasants led by the Fascist antiSemite party agitators. Most of the non-Jews often applauded the looters, though others courageously salvaged Jewish property from destruction. The Minister of the Interior has ordered an inquiry.
