Mr. A. J. Morgan has declared the following handicaps for the Pahiatua Amateur Cycling Club’s road race on Saturday next, the course being about 18 miles from Pahiatua to Hamua and return. R. Millar lmin., L. Pearse 3min., S. Bird (Wood villa) 4min., R. Groube oaiin., R. S. Martin (Woodville) 6min., D. *K. Pritchard 6min., J. Treder 7min., 1). Cullen (Woodville) 7min. Yesterday morning an inquest touching the death of Mr. John William Mills was opened by Mr. J. D. Wilson, District Coroner, at Pahiatua. After evidence of identification was taken the inquiry was adjourned sine die. Between Newman and Hamua early yesterday morning a black and white taxi of Wellington crashed into a deep drain and high bank while proceeding towards Pahiatua. The car was severely damaged but fortunately the three passengers escaped injury. The car was pulled out by a breakdown waggon ami taken to Ekotahuna. The many friends of Mr. W. Thomas will be pleased to hear of his recovery after a severe illness and that ho has left the Tararua Private Hospital for a convalescent home in Napier. Mr 3. Thomas and son, who have been the guests of Mrs. Martin, Tararua stree*., have also left on a short visit to Napier before returning to their home at Bakaunui. Some thirty members of the local branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met Mr. W. W. Mulholland, Dominion president of the Farmers’ Union, who gave an informal talk on matters connected with the country’s welfare and responsibilities of citizenship.
