Foxton Labourer Admits Housebreaking
SOVEREIGN AND POUND NOTES TAKEN. SENTENCE AT PALMERSTON NORTH NEXT MONDAY. A sovereign, dated IS9J, was produced in the Palmerston North Magis-" tratc's Court yesterday by a constable giving evidence in a case of breaking , and entering. It had been recovered from a young man on his arrest for housebreaking at Foxton. Accused was Walter James Scott) Stevenson, a 24-year-old labourer, of Foxton. Stevenson was charged with breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Ernest Francis Crosbie at J Foxton on May 9, and stealing there- ( from £5 3s in money, including one golden sovereign. He was also charged ( with the theft at Foxton on May 4 of j a piece of overcoat cloth valued at 23s sd, the property of Levy's, Ltd. Messrs W. Low Black and W. G. Ashworth, J.P.'s, were on the Bench.: Detective A. B. Meiklejohn prosecuted. Giving evidence, Mr Crosbie, statiq.iimaster at Foxton, said his house was a-quarler of a mile from the station. On May 9 ho was away with his wife from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., leaving the windows and doors closed. Returning home, -he found dirty footmarks insido the house, and further searches showed
