75 Miles an Hour Across Takapau Plains
MOTORIST FINED IN NAPIER From Our Own Correaoondent. NAPIER, May 24. <r That is altogether to high a speed," ©aid Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate’s Court thiH morn* ing when he fined A. R- J- Bull, of Napier, for driving at a dangerous speed on the Takapau Plains. Mr. I\ C. Watson, Alain Highways Board inspector for the No. 2 Hawke’s Bay district, said that defendant had driven at 75 mile«s an hour. “Defendant passed two other car* and was then checked at 75 miles an hour," said Air. Watson, “and while travelling at that speed he met two other cars travelling in the opposite direction. The road at the locality, ■ little south of the Sanatorium Hill, was fairly straight. The Transport Department is not pressing for a heavy pen alty in this case, but it feels that this speed is for too high even on a road of this nature." Defendant was fined £3 without costs, *nd an order was made for the endors® ■ ent of his licence.
