Loneliest Job

LIGHTHOUSE ENGINEERS In pursuance of a scheme to make West of Scotland waters safer for shipping the northern lighthouse steamer Hesperus, from Oban, has landed two engineers at the lonely Dubh Heartach lighthouse, situated on a rock of the Argyllshire coast. They are to build a new, powerful automatic fog-signal gun on the tower of the famous beacon, where three attendants are stationed. The work will take some time to complete, and the engineers will have the loneliest job in Britain. They have prepared themselves to be marooned for many weeks, for during stormy weather the lighthouse is frequently cut off from the outer world. Similar fog-signal guns are to be erected at other West of Scotland lighthouses.
