Manawatu Savage Club

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCHING On Saturday night there was an excellent attendance of members at the opening korero, and any doubts as to the desire for the resuscitation of the Manawatu Savage Club were well blown out. During the last few weeks a provisional committee had been working steadily and their efforts were well rewarded. For the first half-hour those in attendance were occupied in fraternising and sharp at 8 o'clock Past Rangitira P. S. Larcomb donned the mat and with all the savage equipment took the chair and opened proceedings. In extending a welcome to old and new members he briefly traced the efforts made to revive the club and felt certain that a prosperous season was assured. A few local hits being disposed of, a welcome was extended to Rangitira Dr. Adams, of the Wanganui Savage Club, and president of the New Zealand Association of Savage and Orphans Clubs. Rangitira Adams expressed his pleasure in being present and referred to the high place occupied by the club in past years, and he felt certain that success would attend the club in the futile. The next business was to adopt several resolutions dealing with the management of the club, and the election of officers followed. Savage C. R. Luke was unanimously elected Rangitira and was invested as such and took charge of proceedings. Past Rangitira Gordon Priest was elected secretary and Past Rangitira Larcomb treasurer. There were 14 nominations for seven councillors and those elected were Savages L. Wood, L. A. Ferguson, ll B. Gill, J. R. Hughes, A. J. Eising, J. W. Davidson and Past Rangitira H. C. Collinson. An excellent programme followed contributed to by Savages Pierard, Wood and Algar and an orchestra of 16 under the conductorship of Savage C. L. Mowlem. The club starts off with a large membership and considerable talent and prospects are particularly bright for a successful season.

On Juno 5 the Wanganui Savage Club is sending a raiding party of 60 and will provide the whole programme for tho second korero.
