Flight Record From Darwin to England
BROADBENT'S TIME 6 DAYS 11 HOURS. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, May 3. The aviator Mr H. F. Broadbent landed at Lympne at 5.41 p.m. at the end of his solo flight from Australia, in which ho broke the record time of 7 days 19 hours 50 minutes set up by Mr H. L. Brooks in 1935. Mr Broadbent’s time was 6 days 10 hours 55 minutes. UNEVENTFUL FLIGHT. LONDON, May 3. Mr Broadbent said that his flight was uneventful! and that his machine ran perfectly. The most anxious time was near Rangoon, when he encountered the storms which precede the monsoon. Mr H. L. Brook’s record between Australia and England was 7 days 19 hours 50 minutes, and Mr Broadbent planned to better this by reaching England in 6 days 16 hours 30 minutes. He had made a careful schedule towards this end, and used a D.H. 85 Leopard Moth with a Gipsy Major engine. ‘•WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN FOR WORLDS’ * “DANGEROUS AND QUITE USELESS” Received Tuesday, 7.45 p.m. LONDON, May 3. "I would not do it again for worlds. li'a so silly,” Mr. Broadbent told the Daily Herald. “It is uncomfortable, dangerous, and quite useless. Besides, 4 don’t get anything out of it. It worries my wife and nobody cares anyway.” H. L. BROOK’S PROGRESS. LONDON, May 3. Mr H. L. Brook, on his flight from Cape Town to England, has arrived at Wadi Haifa from Kisuma, Kenya Colony. Received Tuesday, Midnight. CAIRO, May 4. Brook arrived and left for Brindisi at 6.34 a.m., British standard time. RUMANIAN PRINCE GIVES UP. PARIS, May 3. The Rumanian Prince Constantin Cantacuzene, who left London in an attempt on the England-.!obannesburg and England Cape Town records, abandoned his flight at Bouless, Southern Algeria.
