A 23-year-old aviator, a chemist, named Douglas Gee, warned his passenger, Claude Oscroft, that he was going into a spin. He failed to flatten out and continued upside down. Gee was hurled to death on the railway line, but Oscroft, suspended in the air from the seat strap, managed to get his legs around tho control-stick and . the machine miraculously righted itself, Oscroft landing safely.
