Skins and Hides

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: •‘ At the fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries, there was a full bencih of buyers in attendance. * * Sheepskins.—A rather sharp fall values was recorded and a disappointing sale resulted, prices for most grades declining by Id to 14d per lb. The small quantity of salted skins offering showed a corresponding decline. “Hides.—lt was anticipated that the market would show a further drop on last sales’ quotations 1 and this eveutuated and yearling and kip id to Id lower. Calfskins, however, sold extremely well at about id advance. “Tallow.—A small offering was submitted, values being slightly easier. ‘ ‘ Tho following is the range of prices:— “Sheepskins. —Halfbred 114 d to 17d; fine crossbred, 15£d to 17id; medium crossbred, 14:]d to 16fd; coarse crossbred, 9&d to IGJ; half wools, IOJd to 17Jd; quarter wools, 10id to 15fd; pelts. 8d to lljid; salted at each: half wools, to 6s 9d; three-quarter wools, to 8s; lambs, to 4s Gd. “Hides.—Ox, 33/44 lbs, 8 3-Sd to 9|d; ox, 45/52 lbs, 7d to 9 7-Sd; ox, 53/59 lbs, 8d fo 10id; ox, 60/69 lbs, 7d to 10 7-Sd; ox, 70 lbs and over, 8 3-Sd to 11 Jd; cow, 33/39 lbs, 8d to 9|d; cow, 40/48 lbs, BAd to Did; cow, 49 lbs and over, 8 5-Sd to 9.fd; kip, 26/32 lbs, B‘l-Sd to 10 3-Sd; kip, 17/24 lbs, ll£d to 12Ad; yearling, 11/16 lbs, lid to 14 7-8 d; calf, 9/10 lbs, 12 5-8 d to 15d; calf, 6/8 lbs, 16d to 18 3-Sd; calf, 1/5 lbs, 12 3-8 d to 18 3-Sd. “Tallow. —In casks, 23s 9d to 27s 6d per cwt.; in tins, 14s to 18s per cwt.
