During the year the mains were extended as follows:—College street to Old People’s Home, 91 chains; Guy street, 2i chains; Albert street, 13 chains; Matamau street, 14 chains; Ranfurly street, 4 chains; Miro avenue, 2 chains; Bryant street, 5 chains; Florence avenue, 4 chains; Victoria avenue, 21 chains; Grey street, 9 chains; Te Awe Awo street, 24 chains. The report proceeded: ‘‘Our records show that we now have connected to the mains 4196 cookers, 463 fires and 72 storage water-heaters. "During the year the addition of 156 new cookers and 186 fires and 23 storage water-heaters is very satisfactory and definitely shows that the gas undertaking is progressing. This is also borne out by the fact that the works' output for the year increased from 85 to 92 million cubic feet, an increase of 7.4 per cent. In 3935 tho output was only 75 million. This year should sec the works' output reach very close to the 100 million mark. “ During tho month of March the eight-inch gas main being laid from Main street, through Victoria avenue, Grey and Ward streets to Featherston street, was completed. This has considerably improved the gas supply in the Russell-Roy-North streets area. The laying of 30 chains of four-inch gas main in Te Awe Awe street-Albert street, to the end of the four-inch main at present existing, has now been completed. This now completes a further feeding main via Albert and Te Awe Awe street 'to Fitzherbert avenue, and should assist the supply to the Massey College area."
