Canterbury Clerical Workers’ Award
STOCK AND STATION FIRMS INCLUDED Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 26. From to day clerical worker* in Can teibury are working under an award. Agreement on practically all point? was reached in the clerical workers' dispute, when it was before the Conciliation Council some months ago, and only minor matters were disputed and referred to the Arbitration Court. The most important of these was whether the award was to cover clerical workers employed by stock and station agents, or whether stock and station agents were to be covered by a separate agreement already in force. The award, as issued by the Court, includes all the stock and station sgents who were included in the original citation, It may therefore be assumed that the Court regards the agreement as invalid and has covered these workers in the general award for clerical workers. Nearly 1000 parties are cited in the award. The wages scale for male workers, which is subject to the basic wage provision, ranges as follows, according to the age of commencing employment:— Under 16 years, ]5/» to £5 5/- (ninth year); 16 to 17 years, £1 to £3 5A (eighth year); 17 to 18 years, £1 5/- to £3 5/- (eighth year); 18 to 19 years, £1 J2/6 to £3 5/- (eighth year); 19 to 20 years, £2 to £5 5/.- (eighth year); £0 to 21 years, £2 13/- to £3 5/- (seventh year); over 21 years, £3 16/- to £3 5/(fifth year). » The corresponding scale for females is as follows:—Under 17 years, 13/- to £2 13/- (seventh year); 17 to 18 years, 18/- to £2 15/- (sixth year); 18 to 19 years, £1 1/- to £2 15/- (sixth year); 19 to 20 years, £1 4/- to £2! 15/- (sixth years); 2(1 to 21 years, £1 7/- to i) 1 15/- (fifth year); over 21 years, £1 J.O, to £2 15,'- (third year).
