Palmerston North Branch Of League of Nations
OFFICERS ELECTED FOR THE NEW YEAR. Tho annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Nations Union was held on Monday night, following an address by ihe lion. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives, on ‘‘Japan and the Pacific," Mr J. Murray was in the chair. The report, as previously published, was formally moved and adopted. Mr L. P. Hardy, the treasurer, presented the balance-sheet, which showed a satisfactory balance of £3 Ss 9d, and this was adopted. Mr V. Christiansen then moved that the position of patron be abolished, aud the number of vice-presidents be reduced from 12 to 2, these two to bo active members of the council, and this was carried. The meeting then proceeded to the election of officers as follows:—President, Rev. T. Hubbard; vice-presidents, Air J. Murray and Dr. K. Dean; socrc-
tary, Mr fc>. J. Bcunett, treasurer, Mr L. p. Hardy, council, Messrs A. M. Cascelles, V. Christensen, J. J. Stevenson, G. A. Brown, H. B. Keid, Dr. \V. Al. Smith, Kev. A. Blakemore, Misses K. Stephens and P. Kindle; hon. auditor, Air K. S. Glendiuniug. Votes of thanks were moved and carried w r ith acclamation to the chairman, to Air H. B. Bcid, who arrunged lor the broadcast from Geneva of Mr Nash and Mr Jordan, and especially to the Press of Palmerston North, proposed by Mr -Lnscelles, who emphasised how much the papers had helped by their in publishing much valuable fl”-l
