Davis Cup Match at Forest Hills
PROTEST UNAVAILING United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrlcht. NEW YORK, April 4. xhe United States Lawn Tennis Aslociation executive committee meeting listened to the petition of the Philadelphia group, but again confirmed lorest HiJls as the venue for the Davis Cup match against Australia. It announced that it was technically unable to change the situation, and that the best interests of the public would be served at Forest Hills since it had the fullest accommodation.
The former Australian Davis Cup player, Mr Norman Brookes, on the eve of sailing for Lurope, inspected the lorest Hills courts aud, in a letter to the United States Lawn Tennis Assosiation, he said: “I am more than satisfied with the care and attention they are receiving. They should be in excellent condition by the time the cup matches against Australia are played, and are suitable in every respect for an international Davis Cup contest. The practice court tlso appeared to be in similar condition ind should give our players every apportunity of getting into their be3t form.**
A cablegram received from Philadelphia last week stated that Mr Samuel Jollam, former president of the United Slates Lawn Tennis Association, in a statement criticising the organisation for centring important tournaments in New York, declared: “The Australian Davis Cup authorities are deeply concerned at the choice of Forest Hills, Spronle, Crawford, and McGrath are unanimous in condemning Forest Hills.** They had declared tH t th* court surfaces were inferior
