Marked Increase in Number of Births
PALMERSTON - -H STATISTICS FOR PAST TWELVE MONTHS
In the year ending March 31, there were 58 more births registered at the office of the registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Palmerston North than was tho ease in the corresponding pre\ious 12 months. The number of deaths registered was 19 more, marriage notices issued 30 more, and the number of marriages performed by the registrar four less. The figures for the two yearly periods arc shown as follows: — 193 G-37 1935-33 Births 938 580 Deaths 507 288 Marriage Notices .. 339 309 Marriages by Registrar 90 34 The statistics for tho first quarter ot the present calendar year, and those for the same period last year show that there were 33 more births, eight more deaths, eight less marriage notices issued and nine less marriages by the registrar in the quarter just ended. The figures are as follow: — Jun.-Mar. Jun.-Mar. 1937 1933 Births 169 ,136 Deaths ....... 63 58 Marriage Notices 71 79 Marriages by Registrar .. 9 18 Figures for March. The figures for March and those for the same month of last year indicate an increase of 19 in the number of births registered, an increase of four in the number of deaths, a decrease of seven in the number of marriage notices issued, and a decrease also in the number of marriages by registrar, five being the figure.
