Mr. J. R. Hart, who has gone to Christchurch to attend the New Zealand and A.C.A. annual conference, returned to Napier last night*. Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, who has been staying in Hastings as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hoar, has returned to Wellington. Mr. Peter Coleman, second son oJt Mrs. H. N. Coleman, of Havelock North, left Hastings for Wellington, where he was to join the boat en route for Sydney and Queensland. Mr. F. C. Triggs, of Auckland, is spending a few days’ holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Tnggs, Lincoln road, Napier. The Minister of Lands, Hon. F. Langstone, who has been on a tour of the East Coas, districts, left Hastings yesterday on his return to Wellington. Mr. Gordon Bailey, late of the staff of Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Napier, has left for the Waikato, where Us will be engaged in insurance work. He was met previously by a number of his yachting friends and presented vrith a leather suitcase as a token of appreciation of all he has done for sailing before and since the earthquake. Mrs. N. Munt, Wellington, who has been spending a few weeks’ holiday in Napier, has left for Rotorua and Auckland. Birthday greetings were extended to Mrs. M. Jarvis, of Queen street, Hastings, who celebrated her 92nd birthday on {Sunday, and as Mrs. Jarvis is one of the oldest and best known residents of Hastings, the whole community joined in extending her many happy returns. Mr. and Mrs. G. Proctor, of Tauranga, are on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Proctor, Muuroe street, Napier. Mrs. Joan Watson, Fenwick street, Hastings, is visiting Gisborne. Mr. T. Robottom, Otaue, left by the Wanganella on Friday to spend a holiday in Australia and will visit the Royal Show in Sydney. Mr. Olives and Mr. Watts, visitors to Hastings for the Hawke's Bay A. and I\ Society Show and the Puke tap u sports, who were the guests of Mrs. Ward, Buller street, returned to *7oodville yesterday. Mr. A, E. Jull returned to Waipawa on Saturday from a visit to Wellington.

Mr. J. Foster, of the Waipukurau staff of tho New Zealand Railways, has been transferred, on promotion, to Ohakune. Mr. S. Caskie, of Waipukurau, has retired on superannuation from the New Zealand Railways after 37 years’ service.

The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs. J. Cairns, of Te Awamutu, and formerly of Waipukurau. She leaves six sous and five daughters, to whom the sympathy of many friends will be extended. They are:—Messrs. W. Patou (Havelock North), J. Patou (Waipukurau), K. C. Cairns, D. Cairns, and P, Cairns (Te Awamutu), Mrs. R. Parker (Whangarei), Mrs. D. Reynolds (Waipukurau), Mrs. A. C. Trower and Mrs. A. McGregor (Te Awamutu) and Sister Cairns (Waipukurau). Bro. A. J. Guy, Grand Master of the Independent Order of Oddfellows of New Zealand, who last week attended tho annual session of the Order in Palmerston North, paid an official visit to tho Hawke’s Bay lodges, at a meeting of Waipukurau Lodge last evening. Ho was accompanied by Bro. Geo. Rudkin, the Deputy Grand Master. Bro. Guy is an Aucklander, while Bro. Rudkin ’» home is in Wellington. The principal feature of the proceedings were tho installation of Bro. A. Morris Dane, of Karainu Lodge, Hastings, as District Deputy Grand Master, after which the Grand Lodge officers, as well as tho representatives of visiting and kindred lodges were entertained at a social gathering. The members of Arlington (Waipukurau) and other Rcbekah lodges also took part.
