Why Ask?

The simple dales lad was driving up the ducks from the pond when a large car arrived in the village. The driver cast an approving eye over the fine, fat birds, and with the idea of booking one of them for himself he stopped and hailed the lad.

“Hey! ’’ he called out, “how often do you kill your ducks V* The lad stared at him for a minute, thinking things out. “Why, only once, mister,” he said at length. And he went on his way marvelling at the questions asked by fellows from town.
