Sister’s Resignation Effective As From To-day

UNLESS MINISTER INTERVENES From Our Own Correspondent. NAPIER, Alarch 20. “Unless we hear something lrom the .Minister of Health before Alonday, .Sister Wood’s resignation will take effect,” said the Mayor of Napier, Air C. O. Morse, also a member of tho Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, this morning, when referring to a request made to the Minister to have Sister Wood reinstated on the nursing staff of the Napier Hospital pending the findings of a further inquiry into boapita! matters. It will be remembered thot, consequent upon the investigations of » special committee of the Hospital Board into an outbreak of disease in Shrimpton Ward lost year, and other matters relating to the Nopier Hospital, the board requested Sister Wood’s resignation within a mouth. That month expire* on Alonday. As Aiayor of Napier, Air Morse, by request from all people interested, approached the Minister of Health through the Hon. W, E. Barnard, a few days ago with a view to retaining the service® of the sister until after tlie next inquiry had finished its investigations. “On making inquiries at Wellington by ’phone this morning, I find *bat no decision has yet been reached by the AJinister, and personally I think it highly improbable that lie will in any way use liis influence to favour either side at this juncture,” said Air Alorse. “It seems fairly definite that since the board has at last considered it advisable to ask for an inquiry, that inquiry will be undertaken under the guidance of the magistrate at a very early date. Unless we hear something before Monday, Sister Wood’s resignation will take effect^ “Terrible indictments have been made against the board by one of its members,” he added, “and if th© services of Sister Wood are retained after the next inquiry has been held, any further indictments to be made rous' be most unpleasant.’*
