Spectacular Fire at Ballance

HOUSE RAZED TO GROUND A spectacular fire occurred last evening at Ballance at 9 o’clock when a! house owned by Murphy Bros., of Pahiatua, and occupied by Mr. C. Watt and family, was razed to the ground. Miss Janet Watt who was at home at the time and had retired, was awoken by a crackling noise, and escaped out the window with an armful of clothes. Nothing else was saved except a few bicycles and the wash-house. It is expected that almost a total loss will result as there was only n small insurance on tihe house and nonj on personal effects and furniture.
