Symbolisation of Thrift
NEW ENGLISH THREEPENNY-BIT, United Pres* Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright Received Tuesday, 7.25 p.m, LONDON, March 15. A design by Miss Frances Kitchener, a niece of the late Lord Kitchener, has been adopted for the reverse side of the new English threepenny-bit. Aptly it features a sprig of a wild plant named “thrift,” which will displace the existing design of acorns and oak leaves. Miss Kitchener, who is an art • dealer, considered that the coin was a symbol of thrift. The first coins bearing the head of King George will be used for the Maundy distribution on March 25.
