Dr. Townsend to go to Gaol

Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, March 12. Dr. Townsend received the minimum sentence of thirty days’ gaol and a 109dollar fine. He announced he would appeal.

On May 28, 1936, the House of Representatives decided to cite Dr. F. JL. Townsend and his two aides in the Townsend pensiou schema for contempt of the House. It instructed the prosecuting officials in the district of Columbia to initiate a criminal action against them.

Dr. F. E. Townsend was convicted on February 24 of contempt of the House by a Federal jury. Sentence was deferred. The statute imposes a maximum penalty of a fine of 1000 dollars and year's imprisonment.
