Martara Atones SUCCESS AT TRENTHAM. SPRINT TO GOLD BOA. A HARD DAY FOR BETTORS. A fine day and. better going complicated matters for bettors at Trentham. However the sport was good, and the racing keen. Martara scored a good victory for Awapuni in the principal handicap and Gold Boa proved herself the best sprinter, easily beating a field which included one of the day’s disappointments, Dungarvan. Wananga This Time. Wananga, who failed badly when well fancied by the public on the first day, soon got to the front in the Ngaio Higbweight, and after leading to the straight with Black Fox, ran on to a good win over Spender and Earl Colossus, both of whom were well placed all the way. Revival was fourth, Red Sun fifth and Black Fox last. Wananga paid a good price. Good Two-year-old. Backed to a short price Courtcraft, who has improved vastly since he raced at Woodville, won the Plunket Nursery all the way. From no. 1 he begau smartly and led on to the course proper from Top Row, Relative and Only One. Courtcraft ran on to win well from The Crooner, Top Row and Only One, who were almost in line. Relative, who was fifth, was well back. Courtcraft showed fine speed and is very good.

Reverse for Backers, Backers suffered a reverse when Francis Drake failed in the North Island Challenge Stakes. Francis Drake, at odds on, led to the straight with Haughty Winner. Paper Slipper and Smoke Screen were immediately behind and Royal Chief was last. Francis Drake was beaten at the distance, where Paper Slipper looked the winner, but Royal Chief finished fast and won by a nose, with Haughty Winner only a head away. Francis Drake, who was last, stopped very quickly when challenged. All the Way Win. The fine field which contested the Autumn Handicap induced a great spread of wagering. Martara led throughout. Ho entered* the straight clear of Rona Bay, Big Dook, Entail, Wild Chaso and Lost Refrain, and in the run homo could not be overtaken, Winning well eventually from Korero, Entail, Wild Chase and Tunneller, who had a great battle for tho minor places. Next wore Big Dook, Arctic King, Silver Ring, Hazoor and Last Refrain. Likely improvers are Wild Chase, Arctic King, Silver Ring and Hazoor. Back to Form. Reipar showed a return to form by winning the ChUrupion Hack Cup. He paid a line dividend. Reipar was followed at tho mile by Maestro, Stratosphere, Catalogue, Sanhedrin, Terry, Roaming, Gay Hunter and Brazen King. Reipar led into the straight front Catalogue and Stratosphere, with Roaming, Tunneller, Maestro and Gay Hunter next. Catalogue made a good effort to overhaul Reipar, but the task was beyond him. Maestro was a good third, Cerne Abbas fourth, and next were Sanhedrin, Soho and Terry. Brazen King fell three furlongs from home. Gold Boa led from end to end. Ben Braggie challenged in the run home but Gold Boa beat him off and won well. Karl was a fair third, Deficit fourth, then Sansfoy, Emissary and Karl. Dungarvan was the big disappointment of the field. The Hack Six. Nelumbo wou the Belmont Handicap in good style. She followed Good Sun, Peacock and Alunga on to the course proper and came through to score nicely from Good Sun, who beat The Bigot and Imposture. Allunga won a poor fifth. Favourite’s Success. Running across the top in tho Hutt Handicap Travenna led from Epris, Debham, Cnief Ranger aud Concert Pitch. In the run homo Chief Ranger was too good winning by over a length from Debhanj, who was just clear of Mandamus and Epris, with Pukeko and Alby next. Friesland was loft. TROTTING DATES.
