Rugby in Feilding
REPORT OF THE FEILDING CLUB The Feilding Rugby Football Club is to hold its annual meeting shortly when the following annual report will be submitted:— Being stronger in numbers than it had been for several years tho Feilding Football Club commenced the 1936 season, with very encouraging prospects. Before the official season started friendly games with terras from the Apiti, Marton Old Boys and Sanson Clubs were played, the Feilding Club winning each game.
In the competition games conducted by the Manawatu Rugby Union two senior teams and one third grade team were entered. The senior A team met with considerable success, having played 13 games to record 7 wins, 4 losses and 2 games drawn and finish in second placo equal with P.N.0.8. on the championship ladder. The senior B team, although not gaining many victories, experienced a good season, and the congratulations of the club arc duo to tliist team for tho determination and club spirit shown by the players during the season. The third grade team showed marked improvement under the guidance of their coach, Mr B. Benge, and by winning 12 games out of 14 games played were awarded tho championship in this grade. With the establishment of tho gymnasium all players were able to take advantage of extra indoor training and throughout tho season play of a high standard in all grades was maintained.
Much of the success of the teams was due to the enthusiastic coaching of Messrs J. Brunscll, W. Glccson and S. Benge and the club desires to express appreciation of these valued services. It is very "gratifying to note that the following members of the club gamed representative honours in their respective grades:—Messrs M. Wallin, W. Sullivan, J. Nicols and M. Dormer in Manawatu A; C. Hight, 11. Dewe, I. Newman and G. Montgomerie in Manawatu B; and W. Bowyer, their grade. The financial position of the club is sound, showing a good credit balance. A dance organised by the committee early in the season was both a financial and social success.
It is with deep regret that the club records the death of two past playing members who had always loyally supported the club, the late Mr Duncan Whisker and Mr George Fitzgerald. The prospects for the coming season are exceedingly bright, several new players having stated their intention of joining. The thanks and appreciation of club members and the committee are extended to thoso who donated funds and equipment; to those who lent cars for the transport of players; the coaches, the masseur, Mr V. Morphy, the members of the St. John Ambulance Corps, the club captain and the Press.
