Swimming Record Unofficially Broken
JUNIOR BREASTSTROKE. From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, March 11. Displaying a delightfully free style, L. Wilson unofficially broke tho Hawke’s Bay provincial record for tho 75 yards junior breafctstroke by 2 2-5 sec. at the weekly carnival of the Napier Swimming and Life-Saving Club ou Tuesday evening. This swimmer, who established a new record at the championship meeting in Napier la?t month, when he covered the distance in 70 4-ssec., finished the course iu 68 2-ssoc., but the club officials will not apply to have his performance recognised as there were not enough timekeepers to record the time. The Havelock North team scored % narrow victory over Napier for the Henry Williams swimming cup, for the champion team in tho Hawke’s Bay Centre, when they met at the Havelock baths. Until the final event, tho teams race, boht teams were level, but Havelock with this event secured a two-point victory, wdth a total of 93, as against Napier’s 91.
The Havelock team are the holders of the Rainbow Shield, the Hastings champion trophy, while Napier, hold tho Herald Cup, the Napier trophy.
